The distance is 20 miles or 32 km. It’s a short drive of 30 minutes from San Jose del Cabo to Cabo San Lucas.

San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas both have attractive features, which resonates most with you is largely based on the type of vacation you are interested in.

Cabo San Lucas is vibrant and alive. It’s the trendier of the two areas, with souvenir stores galore, restaurants, party bars, and well-known nightclubs. It is youthful and lively, frequently filled with college students during official Spring Break periods. The walkability of Cabo San Lucas is one of its significant advantages. It is relatively simple to stroll around the downtown area. Situated right on the marina, you’re close to beautiful beaches and where numerous boat cruises and tours depart. Cabo San Lucas may be your place if you enjoy the nightlife and easy access to tours, shops, and restaurants. 

San Jose del Cabo is the quieter of the two towns and is much less traveled by tourists but still offers plenty of great restaurants, art galleries, shops, and bars. Additionally, San Jose del Cabo is not quite as walkable. The local beaches are a bit more spread out but still gorgeous and open to the public, with easy turnoffs and free parking all along the freeway for the beaches on the Corridor. (The Corridor is the stretch of highway between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo). San Jose del Cabo is less densely packed with tourists and, overall, quieter and calmer. If you enjoy walking to little corner shops or more local experiences, its downtown hosts a lovely weekly art walk with unique, local, authentic crafts, art work and souvenirs every Thursday night as well as multiple outdoor events in the town Plaza. 

Yes, many beaches in the Los Cabos area are safe for swimming. If you are looking for a day on the beach where you can jump into the water for a refreshing swim, snorkel, or just relax with the calm waves, the beaches on the Corridor are a must. If you haven’t been here before, “The Corridor” refers to the main highway that connects both Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. Palmilla in San José del Cabo, Chileno and Santa Maria Bay on the Corridor, and Medano in Cabo San Lucas are some of the most popular, secure, sustainable, and clean beaches. They were proudly awarded with the Blue Flag recognition. A Blue Flag Beach is non-discriminatory and is accessible to all. Other than assistance dogs, dogs or pets are not allowed on Blue Flag Beaches.

Because of their different locations on the peninsula, the two destinations provide very contrasting sunrise and sunset vistas.  If you’re a sunset fan, we think Cabo San Lucas is the best place to see the sun go down as it has greater Western exposure. If you’re more of a morning person, a trip to San Jose del Cabo is in order to see the sunrise where the desert meets the Sea of Cortez, and the Sierra de la Laguna mountains sit in the backdrop.
