No matter where you are in the world, it often takes a little time for a new restaurant to work out the kinks. The best restaurants, though, use this growing period to perfect fresh and unique dishes and to dial in exceptional service. That’s why our guests are loving these six new-ish spots right now, and so are we!

Located in the wellness-centric town of Todos Santos, about an hour north of Cabo San Lucas on the Pacific side, Jazamango will transport you to another world entirely, surrounded by the rugged beauty of the Baja. Chef Javier Plascencia is a native of Tijuana and champion of Baja cuisine, having opened several successful restaurants in Baja California, Valle de Guadalupe, and Southern California, including Bracero in San Diego. Plascencia focuses on fresh local fare, sourcing 99% of the ingredients at Jazamango from local farmers, dairies, and fishermen. If you are looking for a unique experience, this hidden gem is worth the drive.

Chileno Bay Resort and Residences’ Comal restaurant brings flavors from across Latin America to Cabo. The creative menu combines the very best of Latin inspiration and local fresh ingredients. Begin your meal with warm hand-made tortillas and a super light whipped avocado spread in lieu of bread and butter. We recommend sampling from the “raw menu”, including ceviches, oysters, and tostadas, before diving into your main course. The Totoaba with sunchoke and braised short rib in cacao broth are two of our favorites. They also have a full vegetarian menu with veggie-friendly takes on Mexican favorites like tortilla soup. There are few things better than the view overlooking the protected bay, but, if you’re a chocolate lover, the dark chocolate, caramel, and hoja santa almond crunch may just be one of them.

La Deriva

La Deriva is situated beachfront beside the new Solaz hotel, smack-dab in the middle of the Corridor, the 20-mile stretch between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, making it the perfect choice no matter where you are staying. The dining room is warmly decorated and opens to a beautiful view of the Sea of Cortez. If you are craving Italian flavors on your Mexican vacation, chef Emanuele Olivero has got you covered. Hailing from Northern Italy, Chef Emanuele breaks from what we think of as ‘traditional’ Italian food. His dishes are sophisticated and creative—one of our favorites is the filet in a bone marrow broth reduction sauce. BONUS! If you are staying next door at our super-chic beachfront oasis, Casa Mia, you are just a minute’s walk from an amazing meal at La Deriva.

Café des Artistes

Café des Artistes at the JW Marriott in Puerto Los Cabos is the sister restaurant to the iconic restaurant of the same name that has called Puerto Vallarta home for more than 27 years. Chef Thierry Blouet marries French technique with Mexican flavors and top-notch service, creating a sophisticated fine dining experience. The cream of prawn soup is a highlight, touted as “a 27-year tradition”. We recommend the “temptation menu” with wine pairing for a romantic night out.

Chef Paul Zamudio has mastered Mexican-Asian fusion at Panazia Restaurant, which opened in summer 2017 in downtown Cabo San Lucas. He perfectly marries the flavors of the Baja with the flavors of the Orient in dishes like Kampachi—sashimi with yuzu, serrano pepper, and citrus accompanied by a killer avocado-wasabi sauce he calls “aguasabi”—and the teriyaki pulpo (octopus, yum!) appetizer. You will also find some more traditional wok dishes, including Mongolian Beef, Orange Chicken, and Pad Thai…but go out of bounds and try something you’ve never heard of before—you won’t be disappointed! With a well-priced menu and cozy-yet-chic patio, Panazia is quickly becoming a favorite spot among locals and visitors alike.

Located on the Corridor less than 10 minutes from downtown Cabo San Lucas, you don’t have to travel too far off the beaten path to find Metate. A true Baja-style restaurant, Metate offers al-fresco dining with the charm of a rancho but with boho-chic décor. Watch the chefs prepare tortillas the old-world way on the comal, the traditional Mexican grill. Bring your favorite bottle of wine and enjoy a casual meal with friends under the stars.

P.S. Keep an eye out for…

La Lupita, Cabo San Lucas location

Not so new, La Lupita has been a mainstay for tacos and mezcal in downtown San Jose del Cabo for a few years now…but we have good news! Owner David Camhi is opening a Cabo San Lucas location just a block and a half off Medano beach in Fall 2018.
